A kayaking course for those who are ready for waves and wind!
Our advanced kayak course is a course for those who have paddled a lot before and started to challenge themselves in waves and wind. You should be a confident paddler on the green level of the paddle pass and be excited to immerse yourself in paddling techniques, rescue techniques and outdoor life.
Join us out in the archipelago for a fun and wet weekend where we hope for just the right amount of waves and wind. The course is designed according to the guidelines for the blue paddle pass, which means that you get a solid education in technology, safety and environmental awareness.
arrangements
We start the course at 17 on Friday with a joint paddle out to an island where we pitch our tents and make camp. Here we stay all weekend and make day trips to get as much time as possible for practice and immersion.
We live on an island in the archipelago, which means that you need to bring your own tent and food for all days of the course. If you lack your own equipment, we have tents and kitchens for rent.
We aim to be back and ready to go home again by 17.00 on Sunday.
The course will be held somewhere in the Stockholm archipelago, exactly where depends on where we find the best possible conditions for the weekend. If you can’t get to a specific location yourself, we can always help you. Exact location will be communicated with participants the week before the course.
Course objectives
After completing the course, the goal is for you to feel confident to make trips on your own in the archipelago with harsher weather and wind.
Blue paddle pass
In our advanced paddling course, we help you get closer to the blue paddle pass level. You can read more about what is required to take the blue paddle pass here.
Examination can be done with us or another examiner approved by the canoe federation after the course and booked if interested!
Course Content
- Lifting, carrying and loading the kayak
- Effective forward and backward paddling techniques
- Sweep stroke
- Safety stop
- Lateral movement at rest
- Lateral movement speed
- Low and high bracing at rest and at speed
- Contouring and cross-contouring (forward rudders)
- Aft rudder (both ways)
- Managing waves and wind (Establishing understanding and active use)
- Overall, create an automation and paddling tactics in the paddler. What, where, why and when?
- Capsizing & rescue
- Self-rescue
- Towing
- Role (only fine-tuning, you can learn the basics in our role course role course)

Prerequisites
Green paddle pass or similar course with an examiner/trainer approved by the Canoe Federation.
