A sea kayak course for those ready for waves and wind!
Our advanced sea kayak course is designed for those who have paddled before and are starting to challenge themselves in waves and wind. You should be a confident paddler at the Green Paddle Pass level and be excited to deepen your knowledge in paddling technique, rescue techniques, and outdoor life.
Join us in the archipelago for a fun and wet weekend where we hope for just the right amount of waves and wind. The course is designed according to the guidelines for the Blue Paddle Pass, ensuring you receive a solid education in technique, safety, and environmental awareness.
Course Structure
We begin the course at 17:00 on Friday with a group paddle out to an island where we pitch our tents and set up camp. We will stay here all weekend, venturing on day trips to maximize our time for practice and deepening your skills.
We will be staying on an island in the archipelago, which means you need to bring your own tent and food for the duration of the course. If you lack your own equipment, we have tents and stoves available for rent.
We aim to be back and ready to head home by 17:00 on Sunday.
The course takes place somewhere in the Stockholm archipelago; the exact location depends on where we find the best possible conditions for the weekend. If you cannot reach the designated spot on your own, we can always assist. The precise location will be shared with participants one week before the course.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the goal is for you to feel confident in independently undertaking tours in the archipelago during more challenging weather and wind conditions.
Blue Paddle Pass
In our advanced paddling course, we help you get closer to the level for the Blue Paddle Pass. You can read more about what is required to obtain the Blue Paddle Pass here.
Examination can be conducted with us or another certified examiner approved by the Canoe Federation after the course and can be booked upon request!
COURSE MODULES
- Lifting, carrying, and launching the sea kayak
- Effective paddling technique forward and backward
- Sweep strokes
- Safety stops
- Stationary side displacement
- Moving side displacement
- Low and high bracing, stationary and on the move
- Bow rudder and cross-bow rudder
- Stern rudder (both directions)
- Managing waves and wind (Developing understanding and active application)
- Overall, developing muscle memory and paddling technique tactics. What, where, why, and when?
- Capsizing & rescue
- Self-rescue
- Towing
- Kayak Roll (refinement only, basics can be learned in our kayak roll course)
- Knots
- The Right of Public Access (Allemansrätten)
- Leave No Trace

Prerequisites
Green Paddle Pass or similar course with an examiner/instructor approved by the Canoe Federation.
