This is a kayak course for you who want to take the step and start developing as a paddler. Maybe you’ve tried paddling before, maybe you’ve been paddling for a few years but want to learn the basics. Or maybe you haven’t paddled at all and want to learn a little more at once.
In our Kayak course – Basics, we go through the most useful techniques to help you get started with your kayak and be able to manage yourself on the water.
Course objectives
After completing the course, you will have enough knowledge to make your own day trips in the protected inner archipelago and smaller lakes. The course corresponds to a yellow paddling pass (EPP 1).

- Kayak outfitting
- Safety equipment
- Seating position
- Carrying a kayak (loaded/unloaded)
- Getting in and out
- Efficient forward paddling
- Sweep stroke
- Reverse stroke
- How to stop
- Steering with the help of rudder
- Balance in the kayak with the help of a low brace
- Those who want to also try peer rescue
Prerequisites
No prior knowledge is required to participate in our basic course. The age limit is 18 years, but participants who are 16 years old can participate with the permission of a parent or guardian, and 14-year-olds are welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
